Over Sea Under Stone Susan Cooper

March 2022 Reads

I seem to have fallen into a bit of a book slump this month. I’m battling with all the ‘dark’ reads – it is probably something to do with the state of the world as I’m sure you can appreciate!

Anyway, my favourite book this month was Over Sea, Under Stone by Susan Cooper. It is the first book in a YA-type Fantasy Adventure series (3 audiobooks but 5 paper/ebooks). The books are set in Cornwall and based on Arthurian myth. If you’re an 80s kid like me they may also remind you of a Goonies-type adventure, but set in England. Great escapist adventure if you’ve just had enough of reality and want out!

Over Sea Under Stone – Susan Cooper

On holiday in Cornwall, the three Drew children discover an ancient map in the attic of the house that they are staying in.

They know immediately that it is special. It is even more than that — the key to finding a grail, a source of power to fight the forces of evil known as the Dark. And in searching for it themselves, the Drews put their very lives in peril.

Sanctuary – Nora Roberts

Successful photographer Jo Ellen Hathaway thought she’d escaped the house called Sanctuary long ago.

She’d spent her loneliest years there after the sudden, shattering disappearance of her mother. But now someone is sending Jo strange, candid pictures, culminating in the most shocking portrait of all – a photo of her mother, naked, beautiful and dead.

Jo returns home to face her bitterly estranged family, only to find an unexpected chance for happiness in the form of architect Nathan Delaney. But while Jo and Nathan hope to lay the past to rest, a sinister presence is watching from the shadows. And Jo will soon learn there is no peace at Sanctuary . . .

A Cold Dark Place – Toni Anderson

FBI agent Mallory Rooney spent the last eighteen years searching for her identical twin sister’s abductor. With a serial killer carving her sister’s initials into the bodies of his victims, Mallory thinks she may finally have found him.

Former soldier Alex Parker is a highly decorated but damaged war hero with a secret—he’s a covert government assassin who hunts predators. Now he’s looking into the murders too.

When danger starts to circle Mallory, Alex is forced out of the shadows to protect her and they must race against the clock to find the killer. But the lies and betrayals that define Alex’s life threaten to destroy them both—especially when the man who stole her sister all those years ago, makes Mallory his next target.

Redemption Road – John Hart

Imagine:

A boy with a gun waits for the man who killed his mother.

A troubled detective confronts her past in the aftermath of a brutal shooting.

After thirteen years in prison, a good cop walks free as deep in the forest, on the altar of an abandoned church, a body cools in pale linen…

This is a town on the brink.

This is Redemption Road.

Brimming with tension, secrets, and betrayal, Redemption Road proves again that John Hart is a master of the literary thriller.
