True Betrayals by Nora Roberts is my pick for ‘Book of the Month’.
As I mentioned in my last post, I have decided it is too difficult to only write posts about books I would give 4 or 5 star ratings. Mostly because I am too picky and I don’t have time to read and write. But also because everyone’s tastes are different and so much depends on mood etc.
So I have decided to just list all the novels I read each month and then pick my favourite. I will collate my “recommended reads” later.
TRUE BETRAYALS – NORA ROBERTS

THE VANISHING – JAYNE ANN KRENTZ
Decades ago in the small town of Fogg Lake, The Incident occurred: an explosion in the cave system that released unknown gases. The residents slept for two days. When they woke up they discovered that things had changed, they had changed. Some started having visions. Others heard ominous voices. And then, scientists from a mysterious government agency arrived. Determined not to become research subjects of strange experiments, the residents of Fogg Lake blamed their “hallucinations” on food poisoning, and the story worked. But now it has become apparent that the eerie effects of The Incident are showing up in the descendants of Fogg Lake.…
Catalina Lark and Olivia LeClair, best friends and co-owners of an investigation firm in Seattle, use what they call their “other sight” to help solve cases. When Olivia suddenly vanishes one night, Cat frantically begins the search for her friend. No one takes the disappearance seriously except Slater Arganbright, an agent from a shadowy organization known only as the Foundation, who shows up at her firm with a cryptic warning. A ruthless killer is hunting the only witnesses to a murder that occurred in the Fogg Lake caves fifteen years ago—Catalina and Olivia. And someone intends to make both women vanish.
“Krentz expertly entwines high-stakes suspense, a paranormal-spiked plot, and a generous dollop of sexy romance with delightfully dry wit as she launches a thrilling and chilling new series…Krentz gets extra bonus points for continuing to recognize the coolness factor of librarians as well as inventing an ingenious new use for forks.”— Booklist (starred review)

HOT SEAL – LYNN RAYE HARRIS
Saving the world? No problem. Faking a relationship with his ex-wife? Problem!
When a terrorist steals a drug submarine, Navy SEAL Dane “Viking” Erikson finds himself thrust into his first HOT mission with an unexpected partner: his ex-wife, DEA agent Ivy McGill. Dane doesn’t want to work with the one woman who still twists him up inside, but he can’t refuse a direct order from his commanding officer.
Ivy’s on a mission of her own – to put the ruthless drug dealer she blames for her mother’s death out of business for good. If she has to work with Dane to get it done, she will. And she absolutely will not fall for his hard muscles and killer smile ever again. Once burned, twice shy.
But Dane and Ivy have never been able to keep their hands off each other. While they may believe that sex and love don’t intertwine, they’ll find out what’s real and what isn’t when a dangerous player takes matters into his own hands. They’ll need to be more than a team to survive what’s coming their way – and it’s not going to be easy!
SONGBIRD – PETER GRAINGER
“He saw a bare arm first, the hand palm up with fingers curled inwards. Then he stopped and took a few breaths. He could hear the two constables making arrangements before they separated, one saying he’d bring the other some tape from the car, and then it was just the summer morning quiet again.”
Detective Sergeant Chris Waters got the call at 05.29 that July morning. This is it, said DCI Reeve, you’ll be first there, it’s all yours, you’re the crime scene manager. Suddenly, after months of waiting and wondering, Waters finds himself in at the deep end, and alone at the scene of a puzzling murder.
As the investigation proceeds, the detectives at Kings Lake Central find themselves visiting familiar places and talking to some familiar faces, while old enmities reappear in the incident room. Before this is over, Chris Waters will need to make a career-changing decision, and another member of the CID team will find herself facing an unexpected challenge. And Smith? Gone but not forgotten? Surely, he would say, you cannot write me off with a worn out cliché like that…
